The Brooks-Range LongNeck Pro Backcountry Shovel™ is the choice of professionals worldwide. With the longest shaft of any shovel designed for backcountry use, it extends to more than a full meter (43" or 110 cm) and shrinks to 30½ inches (77.5 cm) when you need it short for digging in tight spaces.
The blade's 9.5 x 9.5 inch scoop is made of premium tempered aluminum for strength and durability. Deadman holes allow for use as an emergency anchor. The two shovel shaft pieces can double as stretcher bars with Brooks-Range Mountaineering Rescue Sled™.

The backcountry longneck mini pro is my everyday touring shovel due to it's light weight, but exceptionally sturdy construction. Another huge advantage is it's dual functionality as part of my rescue system.
Because the shovel handle doubles as the stretcher bars for my Ultralight Rescue Sled, I'm able to keep my guiding pack weight and extraneous gear to a minimum. Students and guests are often amazed that I am able to keep my guiding pack so compact and light, yet have the ability to assemble an extremely effective sled system.
I find that the handle and blade pack well in most backcountry packs unlike shovels with integrated parts from other manufacturers.
