When you’re at altitude, you want warmth without bulk or weight in your jacket. So we built our Alpini Mountain Anorak series using premium 800-power, hypoallergenic goose down. This insures that the parka compresses into the smallest space possible when packed, but fluffs up as much as possible to keep you warm in the mountains.

A ½ zip in front and two size zippers let you adjust how and where you ventilate core temperature. The size zips make it easy to use a climbing harness underneath without compromising warmth or mobility. An insulated kangaroo pocket keeps your hands warm and it comes with hook and loop closures on the hem and cuffs.

At 11.6 ounces (329 g) measured weight for size large, this unisex anorak is one of the puffiest in the group with 1.6 inches (4.1 cm) of single-layer loft. It shaves weight with its short front zipper, simple reach-through hand pockets, and simple elastic hem, but it adds back some weight with its unique side zippers plus Velcro tabs on the cuffs and side zippers. That’s a total of three 13-inch (33-cm) #5 zippers. The side zippers are there for access to inner garments or a climbing harness and to open/close the jacket as needed to regulate body temperature. I am not fond of the four Velcro tabs; they don’t damage the jacket itself, but they do snag on other clothing when stuffing the jacket. This jacket runs small; I found a size large (my normal size) to be too short and snug, so I exchanged it for an extra-large, which fit very well. Overall, the Alpini Mountain Anorak is a furnace - very light and very warm. I would love to see Brooks Range offer a version of this jacket for non-climbers without the Velcro tabs and side zippers. A hooded version is available.
