Avalanche Probe Aluminum HD

The 240 Aluminum HD Probe is the ideal combination of length, price and stability. The probe measures a standard 240 cm and features different colored segments to quickly indicate depth. Like the 240+ Carbon Pro Probe, the tip of the Aluminum HD Probe is wider so that it can easily be pulled out of the snow and ice without jamming.

Thanks to a quick pull locking mechanism assembly can be done in mere seconds. Just throw the sections out and and pull tight on the T-handle at the top to draw each section into the other. To release, simply push the disk under the T-handle.

  The Brooks Range Aluminum 240 is a solid probe.
  
  What I liked:
  This probe has a simple and reliable locking mechanism. (Not the case for many probes on the market) It was nice NOT to have a funky screw to twist or button to wrestle with. The probe also has a handy “T” grip that worked easily with a gloved hand, and foam “no slip” grip on the top shaft that was helpful as well. Getting this probe locked into position was fast & efficient! I like the 240 cm length too.
  
  What I didn’t like:
  The probe is a tad bit bulky because of its wider shaft. (Probably adding strength and negligible weight) Not a big deal, but I’m always looking to reduce weight and size of my BC tools. Centimeter markings every 10 cm are nice, but I might suggest going even farther and putting them every 1 cm, and labeling the length every 10 cm.
  
  All in all I liked the probe. But I think I’d like the carbon fiber version even more!
